molly-

thank you, what were you going to say in the inner circle when you wanted to go deeper?

I think the cover resembles a random author. I think that it is saying that all the burning that the firemen are doing in this book is burning the author too. It is like what Montag said about how every book was written by a man who may have spent a lifetime writing down these thoughts of his and then... poof it is gone and it is burned by the firemen. I think it is basically a symbol of it is like burning the author himself because you are burning his personality and who he is, and the thoughts he possesses.

alex - Are you really sure that playing violent video games doesn't affect you in any way? I read an article in a newspaper a few years ago about a boy who went out and killed all these people and then killed himself just because he was acting out a video game where the character had to go around killing people for his job, then, if he didn't kill everyone, then he would kill himself. I think that video games and the media have a huge affect on how we act, especially when we're younger.

jose-
i know the games are relistic..

but think about the millions of people that play those games opposed to only the (Maybe) 100 people that ACTUALLY kill someone..

so obviosly they are very different...

Maybe the guy on the cover is representing the society. It is being burned alob=ng with the books and is covering its face because it is ashamed of what its people are doing.

josed said...

Yes, but every year there are more shootings, so the 100s are growing

Liap said...

along not alob=ng sorry

Nile- But why else would it be Beatty? It could be a possibility but what would the significance of putting Beatty on the cover?

did montag grow up in this society? if so how does he know how to read, if he grew up with books being banned. also, if no one reads, then what good are the billboards?

Brian C- I think that what Alex is saying is that violent video games do affect you but not at all in the same way that ACUALLY commiting the violence yourself would...
they are two completly different actions with very different affects

Something to think about...
Why do people kill other people? Money? Revenge? For fun? or because it's the right thing to do?

I think that the man on the cover is a fireman. I don't know which one but if you look closely all of the pictures on the paper and the words are things about fire or things that have to do with the fireman. The man is burning because he gets caught up in the burning of the society and is then starting to burn with it. He has the books under him because those are the foundation of the burning and therefore he is standing on them.

What if montag didn't have the seashell?

alexd said...

yes Louise-
that is what i was trying to say..

thanks for clarifying.

Phoebe, I think Montag did grow up there, but his mom was really different.
