Aaron, what's a love pill? Do you mean it stimulates feelings of affection? I doubt it; people in that society rely on pills to get away from problems, and having affections for someone causes problems. They're so lazy and afraid to deal with trials that they miss out on the good relationships that they could have. So in that society, no, I don't think that there would be a love pill.
about mildred taking the pills to numb the pain. that's like what emos do. They cut themselves to give them physical pain to numb the emotional pain of their life
their society in this book reminds me of a hamster wheel. the people are like hamsters, just running and running and running, and they can't (and don't) stop. they just plow ahead and don't even know they're going the wrong way.
On the inner circle they are disscussing how Mildred overdoses and I believe that she has been doing it for a while, because Montag didn't freak out as much as I would have expected him to, he seemed more composed, like it had happened before.
Amy- wohoo! I like the connection about hte hampster wheel. They are definately running around in circles forever and not going anywhere. I think that thier society kind of has the same problem.
Kristen, yes this is what emos do, and they don't realize how cutting themselves doesn't stop anything, it just creates more problems. But they think it helps. It's like Mildred. The sleeping pills don't solve or help anything, but she thinks they do.
John, I think that the only way that love could survive in that society is if parents taught it to their children. If a child was shown love from their parents, then chances are they will show love for their children. If that child grows up though and ships their child off to school, then that child would treat their children that way. It's possible for love to survive, but only if everyone passes it on to their children.
Alyssa s- i noticed that too, if it had been the first time that mildred had done this then Montags reaction probably would hove been much more extreme.
They are definately indifferent. They are all mezmorized my TV and what not. Kind of like what we are today, or some of us. This may seem way over your heads, but my family doesn't have cable. The only thing that we ever watch are Rockies or broncos games, no joke. Or Ohio State football. Couldn't forget that one:) We have a total of a wapping 6 channels!
aaron, exactly, thats why it isnt used usually, but the love created is a lot like the love between Montag and Mildred, they are just stuck together, yes neither is enclosed by Magical means by the other, but it is still awful similar.
Brian- your last comment to aaron just made my day. :)
Nile- I agree. Faber seems really timid and scared about dealing with the books and Montag has to force him to help him make copies of the books. On the other hand, Montag is really confident about reading the books and is very ambitious. I think Montag will encourage Faber to regain his confidence in dealing with the books.
I think that Beatty did want to die. Otherwise he would run the other dirction when he saw Montag. Instead he stood his ground and mocked Montag and basically askes him to kill him. He seems like he really was wanting his death to happen.

Nice hat though.

brianc- I don't think that they really love eachother. They only do it for the standards of society.
maddie
what if one of there problems is that they can't love, though?
Thank you alexd and louise.
aaron
there is the adromedia or whatever potion but, like lia says, it only pretends to be love, it captures the perosn rather than make them love oyu
if there was a love pll in this book, would it help them> would they take it willingly?
i aree with maddief, i think that the people want to get as far away from emotions as physically possible, and love pills would create more problems.
And alyssa!
aaronw - I think that there probably would be a love pill but I think that they have such a warped sense of what love is. It would be fake
brian-
thank you sire :)

Kristenw-
Good connection! I never thought of it that way

I think that there isn't a love pill, people are just indifferent. So, here's how I think it goes: Mr. X meets Ms. Y.
All of X's friends got married while they were having fun. So, to be like his friends, X asks Y to marry him and she says, "Sure, what the heck."

molly
but what if they want to only capture peoples fake love?? They really aren't in love...

I think Montag will influence Faber to be more confident and brave in supporting what he beleives in.
amyw-
I think they know that it doesn't solve anything, but they need some instant, temporary relief so they do it anyway.
Aaron - You're welcolm loyal vassel. (but this doesn't exempt you from taxes ;)
jose-
haha nice x y story then what happens after their married
Nile I agree! Good connection

Thank you, MaddieF. And if this is true, then can love ever be lost? 'Cause wouldn't it suck if people couldn't love?
kristen-
do you really want someone to answer that? :)

amy-
exactly so mildred is emo(except with sleeping pills) haha
everyone's taliking about how the couples don't love each other and get married multiple times so, how many times has Montag been married?
Nile- I agree. Faber seems really timid and scared about dealing with the books and Montag has to force him to help him make copies of the books. On the other hand, Montag is really confident about reading the books and is very ambitious. I think Montag will encourage Faber to regain his confidence in dealing with the books.
Brian and Aaron- this is LA. Please stop with the whole "sire" and hat thing.
Thanks
HAPPY HALLOWEEN YA'LL...
Do the families in Montag's society want children? Or does the government issue some order that people are required to reproduce?
kristen,
After they're married, X either commits suicide or goes into mildred mode. Y probably goes like Phelps.

aaron-
no i mean what happens like do they eventually like not love but like each other.
Yay! we beat last time's record!
Does anyone see the similarites between Montag and Macbeth?
I think that Beatty did want to die. Otherwise he would run the other dirction when he saw Montag. Instead he stood his ground and mocked Montag and basically askes him to kill him. He seems like he really was wanting his death to happen.
