javon- I agree with what you said about texting so much. It is just an easier way of communicating, and people just do it more because of how convinient it is.
Brianc - I think that the kids are sent to school to make sure that they never get the opurtunity to figure anything out for themselves. If they do that, then they will want to learn more for themselves, and that is thinking.
All of the happenings of this society seem to be flipped. There aren't any morals that are learned by the kids. I don't think that there is any sort of foundation that is set up for the kids to build from.
Javon- I have seen the same things going on in our society. Like when you talk to your friends you usually say "text me" instead of "call me." I know that I do it but I didn't realize how much I did it until this book brought up the point of our dependency on technology.
brianc---The government wants to keep the kids from actually thinking, and from being influenced by thinkers in their family, so they start the "education" when the kids are babies. It's kind of sick that the kids are going to "school" so young so they can be discouraged from thinking.
all this talk about movies brings us back to the meaning behind it. Censorship. Everyone is talking about how violence is effecting the little kids. But all video players and gory movie lovers, do you really want to give those things up? do you believe that from watching these things will become ok with violence and go kill people. Bring to a more personal level. Did watching all the violence and the little toy guns desenitize you to violence, is it considered ok now?
These kids in the book aren't getting taught morals there are just getting brainwashed. Mark made a good point about how 50 years from now how "corrupt" we will become
When you eliminate books and thinking for yourself and individuality, there isn't really anything to do. All that the kids can do is watch tv, but we need excitement, and I don't think that this society has excitement, and that is why there is so much violence. Then again, there is already a ton of violence in our world today. What is the point of violence? Do we need violence?
I can even admit it to myself, I have many technological flaws, I would probably rather watch T.V. then read, because it requires a lot of effort and thinking, I also would rather text then talk on the phone, which shows because when I talk I don't have enough to think about while I am on the phone where I have the time to think when I text.
what mark said was interesting about how much of this stuff is really going to happen. Maybe we should start predicting whats going to happen and prepare for that.
liap and javon- i agree that texting is an eaisier way to communicate. I practically live on AIM and it is very much the same. I learn alot about people from the computer, and it can be less uncomfortable to talk person to person about some things that you can talk about more easily over the internet.
What everyone said about texting is true. We get so caught up in it, and it's considered cool so of course we all want to be seen texting. We're becoming reliant on it, just like Mildred is so reliant on TV.
Javon just made a good point about texting. It takes away the personal side of communication. It's another prediction about our society that came true.
I agree with what Javon said in the inner circle. So much dependence on technology can lead to people losing those simple but valuable communication skills.
In some ways, this society is politically correct, but in other ways it is very behind. For example, the whole violence aspect is a very surprising. This society is sort of flipped.
the inner circle is talking about blogging. I say that blogging contributes to the whole idea of technology taking over. But blogging is very educational, so could the technology be a good thing as long as it doesnt take away your thought?
Our society is teaching violence to kids through sports, too. If you watch a soccer game from the fifties as compared to one now, there weren't NEARLY as many fouls and broken noses or anything like that. Sports and movies are becoming more and more violent as time goes on.
It seems like we have built our society and developed all these things and became really intelligent, and now all of that is deteriorating. Our technology is getting more and more enhanced, but our intelligence is not needed as much, you don't need to remember everything, it is all on the internet.
ms smith is bringing up a good point. as technology improves we need to grow with it. in F451 the technology improved but the people didnt advance. We cant stay in the past. We cannot go back and those who are trying to keep it of the schools are holding this generation back. the only thing to do is move forward and use technology to advance humanity.
Do we control the technology or does it control us? We are so reliant on it for everything now, what if the computer crashes? You lose your homework, your e-mail, basically our lives revolve around the computer. Does it control us, or do we control it?
This book shows us how we can use technology to our advantage or to lead to our downfall. We can use it in the wrong way, get caught up in it, and become obsessed with it, or we can use it for good things and use it to learn and think. In the book they're obviously using it so that it'll lead to their downfall.
Who has seen War of the Worlds, the recent one, not the old one? Well, Why do you think people wnjoy being scared out of their minds buy movies like that? I mean, who wants to be abducted by aliens and used to terraform the Earth?
Something that I wanted to say that I didn't get to in the fishbowl was Montag's reaction to Clarisse's death. Although he seems to accept her death coolly, what is he really feeling? Clarisse was the one person that he felt he could really open up to, and now she's dead. If I was in his place, I would feel like I had a bunch of emotions bottled up inside just waiting to burst. I think that's why now he's taking such a drastic action of reading the books.
Also, Zach and Aaron, I totally agree with what you were saying about Clarisse being taken out by the government. However, I do think that the government actually killed her, not just took her away to some insane asylum. Beatty said that her family's been under surveillance for awhile, and they were just waiting for a chance to teach them a lesson for going against society. I think that her death scared them into submission.

Alex-He really was showing off that he shot my uncle, that's what I mean by how teaching kids to be violent is bad, even trough games.

yup... so what did she say? anyone?????????
chelseas - I think that your right about that. They have put more importance in being completely equal then conserving lives

Great, we didn't do as much this time...
Anywho, I agree with everyone about how people are being plugged in to their technology in the books rather than using it to better their lives.
