First off, that was awesome!!! I would definetely do it again. There are a few changes that I would like to make to the way things went. I would like to see more conversation between Pink and us, and even though no one was really at fault, it would be cool to see some more person to person talking, and not just him answering questions. Also, I would like to see a way to keep the blog moving. I tried to do that, with limited sucess. I would like to change how we had to get approval for every point too. It was really well done, with the knowledge and resources we had, but in the future, I would like to see these change somehow. It was really cool to have this opportunity, and I wish I had a chance like this again.

The video conference today was an amazing experience. I am glad I had the oppritunity to do it. I really enjoyed hearing what Mr. Pink had to say. The additional information he provided was great. I think the question/ answer format was fine and it probably would have gotten to congested and too confusing if we tried to have an on going dialogue in the inner circle.

I personally would have liked to go through the sences with him and just get his input on each one.

Overall, I think it was a great experience and I am so glad I had the oppritunioty to do this. I have never done anything like this in my education and I am so honored to have gotten this privledge.

I feel that the conferance today was so amazing and the fact that we got to do it as ninth graders is even more amazing. I think that the only thing that I would change is insert either more of a conversation with less questions or two breaks in the process with a few more minutes. They do not have to be long breaks but I think that it would have helped Pink and us to not be so overwhelmed. I just lost focus everyonce in a while because I was so over whelmed by the information and I had little to no time to digest it and the same goes for the people in the inner circle. That is why it was so hard to consentrate and follow him because you were trying to digest so much at once it was like a brain overload.

Over all, I think it was sooooooo amazing and I thank everyone for what they did to prepare for this and put this together. And thanks to Mr.Pink for giving up his time to talk to some 9th graders in Colorado.

I can't say enough about how this video conference, and the AWNM unit in general, has been such a gift to me. I think I always had it in me to change education and discuss important real world topics that go beyond the classroom. To me, this conference was a huge opportunity, but I was not intimidated by Mr. Pink or the fact that the world was watching. Instead, I tried to wholeheartedly accept the responsabilities that that entails and be the best learner and student I could be. This meant seeing Mr. Pink as just another adult so that I could openly disagree (if only in my mind) with him and not feel like I was disrespecting God. The fact that we, as 9th graders, are able to not only talk to these people, but connect with them and see them as equals (with a bit more expertise) is quite astounding. I wouldn't trade the experience for anything and I would feel very sad if future students would not get this same opportunity. We can try to improve it all we want (as we did 5th period) but the truth is that I was personally very impressed by the bloggers, the inner circle, and the in-depth questions that we were able to ask. Mr. Pink was brilliant and it was a very enlightening and highly effective learning experience. Thank you thank you thank you to Mr. Pink, Mr. Fisch, Mrs. Moritz, and especially Ms. Smith for putting it all together. It was a true true gift!

Well like everyone has said so far, all I can say is WOW, that was so amazing! Through out this whole experiance I feel that I have grown so much as a learner, I have gained perspectives that I had never understood, and I have learned so much about my own learning. The inputs and insites gained from my classmates, and the people that have joined us has been so amazing and has helped me grow for years to come.

On the note of today's experiance, that was again, amazing. I still cannot even belive that a best selling author, Daniel Pink, sat there for 2 hours letting us ask questions and learn about him and the points he makes. He had strong answers and gave a great insite. Our questions were strong and I feel that everyone in that room was able to grow. Of course there are things to fix for the future and aspects that maybe could have gone better, but the pro's way beat out the con's. My dad, in between patients at his office, watched for about and hour. He was so amazed and impressed with the questions, Mr. Pink's answers, and the whole experiance in general. My mom came in also for about a half an hour and said it felt so professional, and she too was very impressed.

I cannot thank Ms. Smith, Mr. Fisch, Mrs.Moritz, definitaly Mr. Pink, and all of the bloggers enough for what they have given us. Thank you!

Though we talked about this a lot in class, I will repeat what I said about having just a little more time to converse with Daniel Pink, and not just throw questions at him, and have him throw answers back. I think that the video conference went really well, and I am really happy that we got this chance to do this. If Daniel Pink wants to do in the future, I think that the advise given in class would help a lot. It was amazing to be this close to an author, and thank you so much Ms. Smith, Mr. Fisch, and Mrs. Morritz, for setting this up with Daniel Pink!

This experience was just plain cool. It was a wonderful opportunity and I'm glad I was there to experience it. It was great to be able to sit back and just take it all in. I'm very thankful to all the people who put so much hard work, time, and effort into this! Thanks bunches!

I agree that there are some things that need improvement, but I also think that we should just be happy with what we got. How smoothly things went and how much we did get to do (blogging, talking, live video and audio feeds, ect.), are, when you think about it, really alot of opportunities.

First of all, thank you so much Ms. Smith, Mr. Fisch, and Mrs. Morritz for taking the time and setting up such a wonderful opportunity. It was really neat that we got to be talking to an author of a book that we have been working on for over 6 weeks. I really liked how it was set up, I liked how you could merely just be listening to the conversation, but then once you had something to say, a computer was right there for you. As far as the Q&A thing goes, I thought we had good questions to ask him, but there could have been a little more of a variety. We could have had questions in which none or little of them resulted in the same answer, if at all possible. Overall though I think we did a great job and I hope we are not the only class that will get to experience it.

I thought the video conference was pretty cool. As we said in class, there were some things we could have done better, but considering it was the very first time anyone had done that, I think it went swimmingly. Looking back, it is really cool that we got to do that with the author of a book we have discussed for 2 months straight. So thanks to Daniel Pink for that. Also, thanks to the teachers for working so hard to set that up. Overall, it went really well for the first time and I think everyone did really good with the blogging and questions.

I thought everything went really well. We had a great discussion on Cover It Live, which I thought was actually our best discussion yet! We didn't just stick to the book; we talked about issues in the world and related them to the book, which I thought was really cool. I also liked being able to talk with people from other classes that I hadn't talked with yet. They had had Fishbowl sessions in their classes too, but they talked about different things, and they brought this up in the blogging yesterday. It was fun to get a different perspective on everything because I hadn't heard their perspective yet. I also loved being able to have a session with the author whose book we have been focusing on for two months. Never, in any other English class I've ever had, have I had that opportunity. And thank you to Mrs. Smith, Mrs. Moritz, and Mr. Fisch!!

I thought the video conference was a great oppurtnity and I thought it was cool that we were the first group of students that got to expierence it. I know that a lot of people felt differently, but I actually liked having the chance to talk to Daniel Pink, instead of just blogging with him because then we got a chance to hear from him and listen to his thoughts. I liked hearing what Pink had to say because it changed up the routine of us disscussing with each other, and we got a cahnce to have him prove the points he made in the book and just answer our questions.
I think everyone had strong questions and points when we talked to him and I think that that made a great impression on him and everyone else who was blogging with us.

The video conferencing went really well, I think, and we covered more ground than the grownups (They tried IMs, and mispelled them). So that gave us a sense of pride. And I think that these video conferences show our level of motivation to any awed adults that wanted to pop in, because the most asked question was "How old are these kids?" Followed by awe. It also shows that we should have 1:1 laptop classes ( a computer per kid) because it shows how we could use blog and video conferencing to have a good, civilized discussion with an author, who DOESN'T have to spend money on gas to get here, and he can do it in the comfort of his own office. I think that this is a milestone in 21st century learning, where all the technology there made discussing and talking about things radically simple. No hand-raising or child-scolding happened, to the surprise of other people.

Now, as for me, I didn't get a laptop, so I was content to "absorb" the knowledge that came from the discussion. Seriously, because of the format, I was able to relax, listen, make a few mental notes, and then have a discussion about it the next day. It was THAT easy to learn. I think we should do this more often, because it's more efficient than crowding students into the auditorium and hoping the microphones in there work. If AHS chooses to use this method more often, it would be a change for the better.

I really enjoyed doing this! Being able to have a constant update on the blog ad being able to really talk to Mr. Pink was a once in a lifetime experience. We covered alot of ground and I walked away feeling very proud

I think the video conference was a really great experience. It was so neat to be able to talk with Daniel Pink and have him really explain his thoughts to us. I agree with MaddisonM about the need for more varied questions though. Many of the questions led to answers and explanations that were similiar to one another. On the whole, it was a wonderful oppurtunity, and I'm glad I got to be a part of it.

I think this experience is one of those once-in-a-lifetime things. When do you get the chance to speak (or listen quietly) to an author of a very popular book? I think it's very cool that Mr. Pink took time out of his life to speak to a high school in Colorado. For the kids who got to either be in the inner circle or got to ask a question, they got a life experience being able to talk personally to an author like that. And for the kids who were blogging/watching from the outside, they got the privilege to see this happening and think deeply about it. The tech between the snowball mics and the cover it live was really cool and really helped connect us to an author in DC. I want to say that this was one of coolest things I have ever done in any English class. Thanks again to Mr. Fisch for the tech, Mrs. Moritz and Smith for organizing (and being under huge stress) and Mr. Pink for agreeing to talk to us.

I thought the video conference went well. Mr. Fisch said that he expected some technical problems but as far as i know there weren't any major problems. I was relieved that the mood of the whole thing was a lot more relaxing than I expected. We covered a lot of ground and discussed different topics that relate differently to everyone. It was good that we ad two hours to discuss because Dan Pink could probably talk for three days straight. The only complaint that I have is that most of the responses that Mark Joe and I posted were not getting through to the blog. Other than that I'm glad I had the chance to participate in this.

I agree that that was cool! Afterword, when Mrs. Smith told use he charges something like $30,000 just to talk with people, I couldn't believe he did that with us for free. I liked how he addressed every problem (except the one about his response to the sceptics and what his favorite sence was) and he gave a good answer to all of them. If he does it next year with the new Freshmen on his new book, I hope I can watch either online or in the forum. The only thing I was dissappointed about was that the blog seemed to get stuck on one topic for too long. In two hours they only talked about 4 or 5 topics, I think. And then when someone tried to change to topic, a lot of the time they got ignored or people were talking too much to notice them. Overall, though, the video confrence was a blast.

The conference with Daniel Pink was a once in a lifetime opportunity. The fact that we had the experience to talk with an award winning author is amazing, especially since we are freshman in high school. The talk felt very personalized to me and I thought it was very nice of Daniel Pink to be concerned with what we are doing concerning his book. When I asked him the question of what things surprised him about the attention the book has received, he answered that it surprised him that a group of 9th graders would care so much about his book and spend so much time on it. That showed that even though he is a big time writer he is humble and appreciates the time we spent on his book. I am also really excited to see what his new book will look like.

Yesterday's video confrence was a memorable moment. I felt like all of the classes in attendence took all of their knowledge from our previous discussions and blogs, making this one, our recital, almost as good as it could have been. Once again, Daniel Pink shocked me with his down to earth personality and passion for what he does, I have never seen someone so passionate about their job before. He really helps to encourage us all to go on and apply the thoughts from AWNM and our fishbowls to our lives in the future... and today!

I thought that the technology was really successful! It was cool to be able to have the cover it live with all the outside people, and kids that I had never blogged with before added new thrills to the blog.

This class, once again, produced a memorable learning experience that I will always consider a turning point in my 'high school career'.

I thought the video conference was a huge success. I really enjoyed getting to hear what Pink had to say. I think the people in the inner circle did a great job, they only commented when they had something really important to say and their discussions were very good. I also thought that the technology worked really well, Mr. Fisch did a great job of that. Watching the polls go up was pretty cool, and the coveritlive discussion was really good too. They did a great job of talking about what Mr. Pink brought up, and getting in some other conversation too. I did think they should have moved on from talking about the pledge though.
The only thing about the whole experience, was that Mr. Pink kind of brushed off my question. I asked how people in poverty can find meaning, and he said that he didn't say anything like that in his book, and he was sorry that it wasn't clear. I thought that it would have been a good question to explore.

I, unlike many people thought the video conference was great. I didn't get to blog before the announcements but I enjoyed the experience. Afterwords I got to enjoy talking to many of the people on the blog and got to have great discussions. I felt like everything went as planned, and although we could improve, it went as good as it could.

I thought the video conference with Daniel Pink went phenomenally well. It was great to hear Pink's opinions first hand. How many people get the chance to talk directly to the author of the book thier reading? It's not easy to ask someone like him to take so much time to speak with a group of freshmen. How cool is that? This is our first year of high school and we've already done this much. I'm so glad I got to experience it all.

On Thursday, I came into the forum in anxious anticipation. For the next 90 minutes I was going to be talking to a world famous author, Daniel Pink. I really didn’t know what to expect. But as I sat down in front of the screen and noticed Pink was wearing a sweatshirt, looked relaxed, and had a bright yellow room in the background, I readied both hemispheres of my brain to learn.
I really enjoyed the structure of asking questions. It was interesting to hear what Mr. Pink talked about and how he answered the questions. He restated the information from his book, while adding other research, and most importantly passion. This conference really showed me how passionate Pink was about what he wrote and the whole process he went through to develop the ideas. This book wasn’t merely an epiphany Pink received one day, it has the opinions of hundreds of other people from different industries.
I also felt that during the conference, Pink really cared about what we as students had to say and what our viewpoints were on ideas.
Overall, I really learned more about each of the 6 senses and how I can incorporate them into all aspects of my life. Further, Pink connected all the senses together when he was answering his questions which caused me to see the big picture of A Whole New Mind. This conference was a wonderfully and enriching end to our study of this book.

To agree with Parkerh, THAT WAS AWESOME! I really thought that the video confrence with Daniel Pink was the best educational experience that I've ever had. It isn't often that a famous author will take time and talk to a bunch of high schoolers. I really liked hearing his point of view, and it felt so cool because I knew that he was talking to me. I thought that the morning announcements was a great way to give everybody, especially Mr. Pink, a little break. Thanks to Mr. Fisch, Mrs. Moritz, Mrs. Smith, and Daniel Pink for this oppurtunity.

This experience was so amazing and truly rare. I'm so happy that I got to be a part of this. I, just like many other people, think that it would have been nice if it was more of a discussion than a Q & A session. Other than that the blogging was amazing the live blogging when really smoothly. I especially liked the polls. I want to thank Mr. Fisch (ofcourse) for working on all the technical stuff and Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Moritz for putting this together. I would do this again in a heart beat.

To me this experience was amazing. Rarely in a lifetime does anyone get to have a "face to face" conversation with an author. The fact that we were high school freshman makes it truly extraordinary. I enjoyed the video communications, but I thought there could have been one that should have been changed. We did not really have a good conversation at the inner circle. It may have been better if we had less questions and more time to discuss. Overall, I think it went great.

alexf said...

Wow! Well, not to completely copy what everyone has already said, but I definitely think that the video conference went well. I particularly enjoyed the relaxed environment where we (those without laptops and not in the inner circle) could just sit back and really listen to what Pink had to say. I saw a lot of things in a completely different perspective because I was able to just listen and understand. As I walked away from the video conference and couldn’t stop thinking about what we, as 9th graders, had just done!

Although not much I would change, one thing that could be different would be to somehow, as we discussed in class, converse our ideas to the inner circle. For example, if one of us strongly disagreed with Pink, we could “send an email” or have a private blog to tell the inner circle exactly what we were thinking. Other than this, I believe that the video session went extremely well.

I thought that this video conference with Daniel Pink went really well. I thought that it was well planned out by Mr. Fisch, Mrs. Smith, and Mrs. Moritz. How many times do people, especially ninth grade students, get to have an opportunity to talk to the author of a book? I thought that this was well planned out, and that we all did well blogging, asking questions, and discussing. I think that we all brought up good points and questions. I would gladly do this again!!

Also, my dad logged on, and he was very impressed at how the whole conference went. He said that the people on the outside wished that other kids could have the opportunity to do something similar to this. My dad also said that they were impressed that we were only freshmen. He thought that we, as well as the teachers, did a great job carrying this conference out.

Thank you for presenting us with such a great opportunity, Mr. Fisch, Mrs. Smith, and Mrs. Moritz. This was an amazing experience, and it added to my high school experience!! I hope to be able to do something similar to this in the future.

Well done for everyone. We were under a lot of pressure to impress everyone who was watching us and that didn't even show. I know in class on Thursday 5th hour dicussed video conference pretty in depth. One thing I am really pushing for is that as students we don't push ourselves too hard. Ms. Smith at the beginning of the year told us she would take us to the edge but not over. We tried our best and that's the important thing. I didn't necasirly enjoy the whole experiance but it was really cool to see Dan Pink again. I think everything went how the teachers planned it and the students seemed to be ok with it. Myself and a few other class mates thought it would have been more enjoyable to have an open inner circle instead of the select group. Everyone involved in this had good ideas to add I bet. I hope this experiance has been good for everyone and that we can walk away with A Whole New Mind.

That was awesome! It was a great experience. Even though I wasn't in the inner circle or I didn't get to ask a question I really enjoyed listening to the conversations. We covered many topics and I think that having the announcements was a good break because I was getting uncomfortable for sitting so long. I really liked the polls that came up on the U Stream.

Personally, I liked the overall outcome of this conference. It was a wonderful experience, and I reallyh appreciate all who made this thing happen! I liked how everything flowed, but I agree with the others, there maybe could have been a few more breaks. The announcements coming on was a nice little interruption. Overall, I really liked it and I would do it again.

First of all, I would like to give a big thanks to Ms. Smith, Mrs. Moritz, Mr. Fisch, and anyone else who helped set up this wonderful opportunity for us. Looking back on it, it is simply amazing what went on that day. So many times when I read a book, I wonder what the author would say if I asked him/her a question, and for once my question was answered. It was fabulous to see Mr. Pink's passion for his work, and to hear his ideas first hand. I think that everyone did a wonderful job, and acted very mature and respectful. The only thing that I would possibly think of changing, as Maddisonm, and Katherinem said would be to ask a wider variety of questions. We covered a lot of ground, but I think that we could have covered a larger variety of ground.
