Hey guys. I just need to know how many of you have ever made an acronym or song to remember facts for a test or quiz and what was the benefit for you? -Mac
Well I have two examples. Remeber the song in 5h grade about the 50 nifty united states? I still remember that ^_^ and i also made an acronym when learning the notes for the spaces on the bass clef staff. Acrobats Catch Eachother Greatly. A-C-E-G
I feel like I am always using acronyms ot remember a group of things. In my science class last year I would use different tricks for remembering the latin word roots or like Lauren said, to remember the states or capitals. And they help so much. Just having something common to relate the information back to gets my mind turning so I can really remember.
Mac~ I alwaysuse acronyms or make up little songs to remember things. I especially use them in last minute studying for tests, that way during the test I just have to remember the acronym, and if I remember the acronym, I normally can then figure out what it stands for.
macm- rarley do i make acronyms or songs to remember things. i think the last time was in sixth grade. for music we had to learn te notes of bass and treble clef. I only use the ones that are still ingrained in my head from previous years. Usually, i will try to get it and understand it as soon as possible. If i dont understand it as soon as possible, i try studying it over and over, repeating it in my head.
In Biology, to remeber the order of different classification groups, I learned the phrase Kings Play Chess On Fine Grain Sand, for kingdon, phylum, class, order, family, genus, and species. It helped me learn them better then if I just tried to remember the groups in order.
Im my Science class last year we were asked to create an acronym for the Mohs hardness scale and I have had to do them before. I don't tend to right songs or acronyms for learning because it seems to be a waste of time and I still do just as well on tests. I write songs for my bands and that's it.
Mac, I always use acronyms to help myself remember, like the one from 1st grade: my very excellent mother just said use no pillows... that was my acronym that I made up. I find that using acronyms always help me in tests because it gives me an easier story to remember, plus, in narrows it down so there isn't so much to hold into one thought.
Mac~ I have used acronyms so many times. Especially to remember the order of the planets, and the order of Moh's Hardness Scale in eighth grade. I don't remember the Moh's hardness scale one today, but I do remember it helping me alot on the test. I also agree with Leslie, it narrows it down, so I don't have to worry about remembering all the facts.

sorry, the benefit was that I could remember chronological facts in a way I found funny, so I cared more.
